Holiday Gifts for God – Renewing Minds Into New Worship and Service:
The Christmas season brings to us remembrance of our Lord and Savior humbling Himself to come to us in body to serve His purpose of our salvation. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God alone provides our salvation through his coming to us and saving work on the cross. We too are to have action, coming together, being sent and residing in worship, fellowship and service collectively as the body of Christ.
We invite you to be in prayerful consideration this holiday season of how you are a gift to God through true worship and membership in the body of Christ.
Being the Family and Body of Christ
Being on a church roll indicates nothing toward being in the body and family of Christ. Families come together to serve each other providing love and support. A family only works on commitment, cohesiveness and a common thread. Presence and action is needed. True worshipers are to mesh together as families do, not because we are alike in this world, but because we are all members of a family called to the next. Worship, fellowship and service isn’t about being with people like us, it’s about being together in the body of Christ. Matthew 18:18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth will be loosed in heaven.”
You are the Church
Our scriptural instruction and example is to belong to the church. When the epistles where written, they were written to churches and the church is comprised of its members forming one body. They didn’t wonder who their members were, they knew because all were engaged, present and in service. Romans 12:5 “so in Christ, we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” We cannot represent the body of Christ and fulfill our calling as one church unless we are all in worship, fellowship, and service all participating in the family, all members working together as the body of Christ.
Just as the Shepherd leaves his flock to chase the lost one, so we are to gather together everyone not leaving one behind for all are necessary to form the body of Christ. Matthew 18:12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go look for the one that wandered off?” This gathering together was not done sometimes when Jesus was with us, it was done all the time. When Jesus called the disciples together they didn’t say, “no thanks, not today, I’ll just tune in and seek Your word somewhere else.” They gathered together as we are to gather together as the body of Christ at NHPC.
When you know Jesus personally, you are converted, baptized and joined with the body of Christ. To be in true worship you humble yourself before the Lord surrendering your body and life. You do not choose, you are called to worship and fellowship within the family and you serve in the body of Christ as he did for us. God humbled himself and he came to Earth to save us, to teach us and to worship with us all in service to us and our salvation. True acknowledge of the love God has for us leads to true worship and glad service. You are called to be in relationship and fellowship in the body of Christ offering your gifts for the work of the Lord.
Quiet the sounds of the holiday season and listen for your calling. Strive to do everything you can to be a true worshiper and family member using the gifts God gave you to the glory of his kingdom, in love and community with each other all for the glory of and in the body of Christ.
